Here are a few recent newsworthy updates from our beautiful part of the country:
– GSOB Sports Commission Run the Beach Series with former Olympian Jeff Galloway.
Hats off to the GSOB Sports Commission, who has once again provided a stellar slate of activities to supplement Jan 29th’s Big Beach Marathon and Half-Marathon. The day before the race, The Jeff Galloway Running School will be held at The Hangout in Gulf Shores between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to help teach runners to stay motivated and free of injury. Galloway earned a spot the 1972 U.S. Olympic team in the 10,000 meters and created Galloway Productions, which puts on many training programs and yearly running events.
– Gulf State Park is getting a very cool makeover.
With the addition of the new construction deemed “The Lodge at Gulf State Park, a Hilton Hotel,” Gulf State Park is receiving lodging, a convention area, education center, interpretive center as well as miles of bike trails. A great addition.
– Road Construction Update.
Traffic around town might seem like a bit of a hassle recently, but in the end, vehicle flow will be significantly improved once construction is complete. Work on SR 182, connections onto Highway 59, and the additions of sidewalks continue to improve navigability for beachgoers.
– Pleasure Island Building Boom.
Praise from developers and city officials regarding the increase of buildings in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach has invoked memories of the mid-2000’s – and the signs of progress are all over. Both the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach planning commissions saw great increases in the number of single-family homes in 2015 in addition to a handful of large condos. Very cool to see the growth up front.
Like other local businesses, media outlets and the fine residents of Gulf Shores, we’re stewards of this beautiful place. So if you ever have any questions about real estate in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach or Fort Morgan, don’t hesitate to call The Powell Team — we’re happy to help.
