Fort Morgan State Historical Site
Fort Morgan was a notable Third System fort constructed between 1819 and 1833. Situated where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico, this legendary fort was an important part of the American Civil War battle of Mobile Bay in 1864 and our military used it sporadically throughout the Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II. This historical site displays the US Army’stransformation of seaside barriers, as well as the improvements and adjustments made to the barriers over time.
