The big community clean-up still continues in the Gulf Shores and Fort Morgan areas after September’s hurricane Sally and October’s Hurricane Zeta. Some areas may continue through December, but we continue to do our best to welcome visitors in spite of the challenges presented by Mother Nature – and, the on-going healthcare situations.
We hope you will continue to put the greater Gulf Shores area in both your holiday and winter getaway plans. We are opting for a simpler holiday season focusing on family, traditions and connecting with our community in a safe and healthy manner.
Here’s some of our thoughts to keep it simple this season:
Organize a Socially Distant Holiday Party
Keep the numbers small and plan to use an outdoor or well-ventilated larger space. Surrounding yourself with family and friends always makes it feel more like the holidays and draws a straight line to getting in the holiday spirit.
Bake. Cook. Create.
This is a great opportunity to get out the family holiday recipes and embrace a special memory to remember a loved one. Plus, creating favorite holiday treats or special dish is an ideal way to capture a festive environment in your home. Recipes with seasonal flavors such as a nutmeg and cinnamon help involve all the senses and can ensue the occasion with an extra dose of holiday cheer.
Watch Your Favorite Holiday Movies
Plan a night – or, nights – re-watch all your favorite holiday classics and new specials with your family. We think this the perfect time for some hot cocoa or a serving of eggnog or two – to capture the perfect seasonal moment.
Area Attractions
One of our favorite area attractions that helps set the mood for the holidays is the big holiday light display at Bellingrath Gardens. Near Mobile, this 65 acre historic garden hosts a celebration titled Magic Christmas in Lights that features over three million lights in 16 outdoor scenes.
Also, OWA stages multiple events and attractions to help the entire family get in the Christmas mood. https://visitowa.com/explore/christmas-at-owa/. Their Legends in Concert presents A Merry Country Christmas! Features holiday tributes to multiple country music stars – now playing through December 31. For the little ones, there are breakfasts and brunches with Santa – and, a story time with Santa’s Elves. OWA is located 7 miles from the beach in Foley, Alabama.
We hope to see you soon in Gulf Shores and wish you and your family the happiest of holiday seasons.
Community Update – Fort Morgan Bike Path Extension
Community meetings are on-going in the planning and discussion of this project that will positively impact recreation and tourism. Discussion continues on the exact location along Fort Morgan Highway. The trail is still in the design stage, however, initial construction on portions of the trail could start as early as spring 2021. Some of the trail extension layout images and design concepts are viewable online and are very thorough. Here’s the link to the Fort Morgan Civic Association website documents.
