The City of Orange Beach and developer Brett/Robinson are talking about constructing a new building on Orange Beach. A big concern for locals is that adding a huge structure will detract from much of the charm offered by our quaint beach community (such is the fear of most beach communities). Some say that the new building would be an eyesore and attract people with discretionary income who don’t respect the city.
But through the results of the conversation, Brett/Robinson is doing everything they can to align with the vision set forth by the city and its people. Phoenix Orange Beach is the name of the building, and it’s zoned for residential use, meaning it’ll likely be an impressive condo to add to the shoreline.
According to GulfCoastNewsToday.com, the initial agreements are in space about half of the size as the law allows. Regulations say that the maximum size of a building is 26-stories and 800,000 square feet. From meeting in early January, Mayor Kennon announced that Brett/Robinson sought the guidance of the city and that the city had shown the developer a high-density zoned property. The city council unanimously approved Phoenix Orange Beach by a 4-0 vote, making it the first building Brett/Robinson will have built in the area in over 10 years.
The design of Phoenix Orange Beach is keeping in mind considerations of the city, pushing the parking deck significantly further back from the road, thus decongesting traffic, as required by law. Brett/Robinson also wanted to minimize traffic around the beach, and will utilize their staff to keep the shoreline and work with companies to lessen a number of vehicles on the sand.
At completion, Brett/Robinson estimates it will take 30 months to complete and will have 112 three-bedroom units and 38 four-bedroom units.
We welcome the space and are looking forward to the contribution of another great destination for tourists and residents in the future. Congrats to everyone involved!
